The lumbar pack that helped start the craze in the 80s, the Tour pack lives on in its modern incarnation as a favorite of hikers and outdoor-minded travelers. With a broad swath of versatile uses, this pack tends to become a cherished possession in every outdoor enthusiast’s gear closet. However, it does not stay there long as it gets used daily as a hiking pack, disc golf bag, messenger bag, office briefcase, carry on travel solution, diaper bag, and whatever you can think of. Built with ultra-durable CORDURA fabric, the Tour lumbar pack will become your outdoor security blanket as it logs hundreds of thousands of miles adventuring with you around the world. Though the design honors the 35+ year history of this waist pack and has not changed much in shape, modern features make this version of the Tour the best yet. Features now include a tuck away waist belt for messenger style carry, removable shoulder strap, traditional front panel bungee, Strapette compatibility (sold separately), interior tablet sleeve, smart phone compatible waist belt pocket, ridged EVA back panel padding with stash pocket, side water bottle holders, hanging inner sanctum pocket, zippered front panel pocket with key clip, bottom compression straps, and a headphone port. We have heard this product used for just about anything. Where will this fanny pack take you? To bring you peace of mind for your backcountry investment, Mountainsmith offers a lifetime warranty on their products. Good for a day hike!
It holds a lot, especially if you use the outside front panel to hold an extra jacket as I included in the accompanying photo of the bag stuffed and the second photo of everything I had inside. Fits 10 essentials plus compact binocular. Given most of the gear in the photo is "packable" or meant for hiking. I can confidently go into the backcountry for a day hike with this pack.Sold separately, I have the shoulder straps and rain cover, but usually don't use them as the pack has good weight distribution and in your usual light rain the pack is very water resistant. That said, on some special occasions like a heavy load or carrying items I absolutely have to keep dry, I use the rain cover sometimes.Having the pack low on the back keeps my shoulders relaxed and makes it easier to use a binocular for wildlife watching ( the ultimate reason I head into the outdoors). It also minimizes the sweat factor compared to a backpack. I find the load very comfortably distributed around the waist with this belt bag; especially when the butterfly straps are tightened down bringing the weight snuggled into the lower back.Only draw back I find is the 2x 1 liter bottle holders don't hold up to jogging as the bottles will fall out with heavy bouncing. There for I personally carry a 16 oz bottle in the holder most of the time. Also, my phone is too big for the hip pocket, but gloves or a hat do fit, so I still really appreciate the hip pocket.A great addition to my outdoor gear! Well worth the money!

ROOMY, COMFORTABLE & WELL MADE
I will have to write an update after my trip to Peru in May 2025, but this pack seems awesome. Lots of room and pockets to hold all kinds of items. I like the padded neck strap to help balance the weight of a full pack. I will use this pack for hiking and as my travel purse.

Mountain Smith continues to deliver top quality in materials and design
It has all the features of it's excellent predecessors with, perhaps better quality straps, clips, and zips. There is a new drawstring pocket large enough for a light rain jacket of flip flops I like.

Amazing Pack Lacking One Major Detail
I got this for my husband who had wanted it for hiking. He used to have an older Mountainsmith Lumbar pack which somehow got lost in the move. This arrived for his birthday and he loved it, one major major issue though. He is a big tall guy and the waist strap would not fit around his waist comfortably. We almost sent it back in disappointment but I reached out to MountainSmith company email and asked about whether they sold a waist extender, They ended up shipping me one for free (it took a little finagling to figure out how to attach it correctly) which was amazing. Absolutely Kudos on their customer service. To include a waist extender or even have one for sale would have been a great option as reading reviews on this pack it appears this is a frequent complaint. Would definitely buy again.

Great day pack! Feel the freedom of hiking with a waist pack!
Mountainsmith still lives up to the name. Great pack especially for a day hike. Plenty of room for essentials and wears nicely. I did buy the strapettes but the pack without them wears nicely also as long as you don’t overload it. The strappettes make it wearable like a backpack and allow you to slightly overload and wear more comfortable. Wearing a waist pack while hiking allows you to feel more free giving your back full airflow which in return makes you feel more mobile and not weighed downed. Great product quality material I’m sure it’s going to last for years!

Read before you buy.
Ordered this to use as a waist pack. Waist strap is so short it can't be fastened with a jacket on. I'm 6 ft, 200lbs, size 38 waist. The straps are maxed out with a shirt. Also, there are no attachment points anywhere on the bag or waist strap, so don't plan on adding any accessory pockets. Really poor design, in my opinion.

Nice waist pack but waistbelt is short
A nice waist pack but with some issues. The fully opened-up waist strap is tight if I'm wearing a fleece sweater (my waist is 35") so larger people will likely not be able to use this pack. The shoulder strap's installed slide placement prevents it from being made long enough for comfort but I was able to fix that by forcing the slider through the pad to the other side so I can make the strap longer. And if there is much weight in the pack, you'll want to use the optional strappette shoulder straps.

Perfect bag for traveling and day hikes
The tour bag is well designed with many pockets and options to carry it. I like the multipurpose straps that allow for shoulder carry, lumbar carry which is very comfortable, hand carry and I like the optional strap that allows the pack to be used as a backpack. The carry options allow carryon the planes, for urban hiking and regular day hikes and when I have to carry heavy loads. The pack is well constructed, great job mountainsmith!
