Like magic
I finally got a chance to try out my scorch markers, and it worked! It seems kinda like magic. I do not have a heat gun, so first I tried using my household iron. Maybe I was too impatient, or maybe my iron doesn't get hot enough, but there was no change. Then I brought out my propane torch and it worked great, except for the fact that it's difficult to finesse a torch flame and the wood burned a little along with my design. I'm glad I tried it, but I think I'll get a heat gun before I try again. I liked that the set came with two markers and extra tips. The liquid bled a little bit under my stencil, but not as much as I thought it would (and that's more about surface and preparation than the marker itself). If you've been wanting to try scorch markers--do it!

does not live up to the claims
I actually do alot of wood burning and i was excited no i was over the moon to try these. I guess I had high hopes but the pen basically draws your design on to the suface in a brown ish ink and youre supposed to use a heat gun to apparently burn this image somehow into the wood but let me say this. I do not know what kind of ink this is or how safe it is in handling it but it doesnt strike me as something you want to inhale as it burns though the smell is minimal. I want to try my regular markers and see if they work the same because all it did was make the ink darker after a really long time applying the heat gun. By the time the marker turned any darker the wood around the ink that was exposed to the heat gun had burned from the heat of the heat gun it was disappointment for me. after that i still wanted to love these pens and i assumed that the design was now burned in to the wood so i thought " okay so i have to sand a little bit and get the scorched area around the image cleaned up i guess thats no big deal" nope it was a big deal. The image had not at all burned into the wood and sanding it smeared this weird ink all over the wood making it harder to sand off than if i hadnt used it at all. This was heart breaking to me i thought about these along time berfore finally getting some to try i wish they had worked as described and though they are absolutely not even a wooodburning marker they could possibly be good for something else but i dont know why it was ever described for this type of tool because it wasnt at all the effect it gave and even with the darkened image there was not much semblance of a woodburned piece it didnt look like the burned wood nor did it actually burn any wood whatsoever. ahhh too good to be true art enthusiasts! so be wary and if any of you use this and find it works for you then hit me up i may have had the wrong idea or used itwrong and would love to find out it really is what i dreamed of. until then try at your own risk my art friends.

Great product for beginners and all ages! Safer than a wood burning kit
I ordered this product to help me create designs on some wood rounds that we’ll be using as centerpieces for our wedding reception. I wanted to add our wedding date and names to the wooden pieces being used throughout our wedding, and especially the tree trunk cake stand well be making. I was going to carve all the details into each decor item but then I saw this product and felt it’d be much easier and less time consuming to use these heat activated chemical pens instead. Now, these pens are called wood burning pens but of course you’re not actually burning the wood- so no, it isn’t going to look like it was actually wood burned. If you’re wanting a true wood burned look you should get a wood burning tool set. This item is just meant to give a similar effect but isn’t supposed to look exactly the same as wood burning. It’s a marker, you aren’t going to get shading like you would with a wood burning tool that you can control how much burning occurs. This is to be as expected with this product. It however does work like it should. You can draw free handed or use stencils to color in a design and then apply heat and watch the color transform before your eyes. It turns from yellow to black fairly quickly. I would recommend doing your design in sections depending on the type of wood so the design doesn’t start to bleed- but this isn’t a fault in the pen, bleeding will happen on fault of the wood you’re using. Some woods take to these pens better than others. Definitely sand your working surface down before drawing as well, this will help minimize any bleeds. You receive two pens that are double ended and you also receive a little pouch of extra nibs as well which I find very thoughtful. This product is really helping my vision come to life in a much easier way than originally planned. Overall: I highly recommend these pens. Just don’t expect them to work to an equivalent of wood burning- they aren’t meant to perfectly resemble the effect you get from using a good electric kit- It gives a single color scorched look for beginners and is safe for any age or experience level to use. The price is about the same in comparison to other listings on Amazon but with this brand you also get the replacement nibs.

Works fine but liquid flow is inconsistent
I like the concept of these pens because the only heat required is from a heat gun. I didn't want to buy a special set of wood burning tools just to try out this type of craft. However, I do already have a heat gun because I use it for embossing and other crafts, so these pens were an easy, affordable and convenient way for me to try out wood burning. I only gave three stars because the flow of the liquid through the tips is inconsistent. I kept having to stop drawing and keep the tip pressed down on a paper towel until more liquid seeped down into it. Aside from that, they work pretty well and I had a finished wooden ornament in about 15 minutes from start to finish.

Easier and cheaper than a wood burning tool kit, works great
We made some rocking horses and wanted to burn our names and date on the bottom, but we've never done wood burning and don't have the equipment. I was so surprised and happy to find these wood burning pens. They are a much cheaper option and great for beginners which is perfect for us. We sanded the areas, wrote it out with the first pen, went over it with the second pen then used our heat gun to finish them. They came out beautifully. Just what we needed. This set came with optional tips which I didn't need to use. It does not have any instructions, so I had to refer back to the above page when working on it.
