In theory, yes you can do that. Keep in mind that the seams will be visible. Although you may want the pockets on the outside now, once you put the Cape on and try the inside pockets, you may likely change your mind. The inside pockets really are a nice feature.

The s/m would be the right size for her.

It should work well. It's designed so it drapes over the shoulders and for your hands to go into the inside pockets and wrap it around yourself.

It could work. Since the cape is designed to fit over your shoulders and drape, the Large/Extra Large should be ok.
