As solid as concrete, depending on your soil
The first mailbox I put in came with a short piece of 4x4 and basically a thin metal stake. The stake gets hammered into a hole in the 4x4. The 4x4 get stuck in the ground and then the mailbox goes over the 4x4. It was easy to install, but that thin metal stake rusted and broke after just a few years. I found this screw here and decided to give it a try. I really didn't want to dig a hole and pour cement. The screw was easy to get started, but the soil in my area is like clay. Once the screw starting getting low, the supplied piece of rebar started to bend. I had to use a long piece of iron plumbing pipe that I had to keep going and increase my leverage. The last few inches were pretty tough, but its sturdy as heck now. After the screw was in, I just removed the metal spike from the 4x4 and set it in the screw's bracket. As I recall, the bracket was completely square to the 4x4, but a little hammering fixed that.Overall, the install was harder than expected due to soil conditions, but I am very pleased with the end result.

TERRIBLE- Do not buy this, super heavy & didn't function properly
Really heavy item, caused my son an injury. Very hard to use, plus you can find this on Alibaba or Aliexpress for the fraction of the price. Sorry AVOID THIS PRODUCT & GO FOR A BETTER QUALITY. I will add photos soon.

The rebar sent with it worked, but was starting to bend as the anchor got deeper.
Was so much easier than useing a post hole digger. Stability seems to be good for a rural mail box.

Doing the job
Some cretin knocked over and destroyed my old mailbox, so I had to get a new one. I didn’t like the idea of the bother and expense of digging and pouring concrete, so decided to try this. Had a friend help me, since I have a hard time doing some things. We immediately ran into a problem, which was not the fault of the product. We ran into refusal several inches below where I wanted to put it. Apparently, my lawn has a web of tree roots all over the place. We tried several locations. Just when I was about to give up and dig to find whatever was causing the refusal, we FINALLY found a suitable spot.We did not use the provided rebar, but went straight to using a 4 ft. 2 x 4. It takes quite a lot of torque to fully screw it in. I could hear a cracking sound, which I assume was the sound of a tree root. I was pleased that the screw is sturdy enough to take all the stress put on it. I used a level app on my phone to keep it plumb. Unfortunately, the bracket ears are not at a perfect 90 degree angle to the base, so the 4 x 4 post leans back a little. This is ok. Following the advice of others, I did not use the provided lag screws, but instead used bigger ones from Lowes. I decided to make one of the lag screws a one way screw to deter anyone from wanting to unscrew the post. It feels quite solid. Today is a very windy day, with gusts up to 50 mph, and it’s holding up nicely. When it calms down, I plan to paint the wood black to match the screw.
