Fiberglass-covered Rubber Ducky
Without any reviews when I bought it, I didn't know what to expect. I've hit the repeaters 20 miles away from my deck using a mobile antenna, but wanted something more permanent and up on the peak of the roof. The price was right, so I went with this one. Some LMR400 cable, a good lightning arrestor and quality waterproof PL-259s and I was on the air with my Yaesu 2900R.Signal reports from the repeaters 15 miles away have been excellent. Some have said it sounds like I'm sitting under the repeater. I've also gotten a 5/5 on a repeater 30 miles away. I've also hit one over 40 miles away, but that one was "scratchy, but copyable." To be fair, their signal to me was scratchy as well, so it had more to do with the terrain and distance than this antenna.Receive has been very clear. I haven't set any records with this, but without spending 3-5x the price, I don't see how you could expect more. I'm sure I'll replace it at some point and try to get further reception, but for now this is doing exactly what I need it to.

Works well and better with time
I can't tell much difference between this 17" j-pole stuffed into PVC pipe and my Diamond RH77 HT antenna (The HYS is installed outside with only 20' of cable. I guess if you got up above or on your roof your roof peak if might do very well.

Stock whip on a handheld works better
Mounted it to a plastic vent pipe with 25 feet of RG-8 and attached it to a Baofeng BF-F8HP. Reports are that I sound scratchy from this antenna, but when I attach the stock antenna and step outside I sound clear.

Not useable on UHF 440m
The VSWR on UHF is 3.5:1 at 430M and worse as it goes up. Not worth burning a radio up while using it.VHF or 2mtr is usable.
